Nouri al-Maliki re-elected as Secretary-General of the Iraqi Dawa Party.
According to the official Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Islamic Dawa Party re-elected Nouri al-Maliki as its secretary-general at its 19th congress.
Nouri al-Maliki served as Iraq’s prime minister from 2006 to 2014; this period is considered one of the tensest periods in Iraq due to the occupation of Iraq and the end of the US military presence in 2011, and the ISIS offensive in 2014.
Last week, Iraqi media announced that the country’s government had set November 11, 2025 (Tuesday, 20 Aban 1404) as the date for holding parliamentary elections in the country.
Earlier, Nouri al-Maliki, the leader of the Iraqi Government of Law coalition, warned that any postponement or cancellation of the parliamentary elections would lead to the overthrow of the parliament and lead Iraq into the abyss of division and sedition.
Maliki said at a conference held in support of holding elections in Iraq: “In recent days, some people have raised issues about canceling or postponing the elections, while elections are a religious, human, and moral duty and a way for the people to govern their affairs.” The head of the Government of Law coalition emphasized: “We do not accept any talk about postponing the elections because any postponement will end the parliamentary term, and in that case, there will be no legal justification for its continued activity; the constitution will also be suspended; as a result, the overthrow of the parliament and the dissolution and inactivation of the parliament will not be possible except by a ruling of the judiciary.”
