PNN – A Pentagon official said the number of wounded American soldiers had reached 303 as of Friday, up from about 290 reported by the Pentagon earlier this week.
According to a US Department of Defense official, more than 300 American soldiers have been wounded in combat since the start of military operations against Iran.
The official told CNN that more than 75 percent of those injuries were traumatic brain injuries.
The official said the number of wounded U.S. soldiers had reached 303 as of Friday, up from about 290 reported by the Pentagon earlier this week.
Of the wounded, 273 have returned to duty, the official said. Ten U.S. service members remain in critical condition. A U.S. official previously told CNN that those classified as critically injured include those with severe injuries that are likely or imminently fatal.
Thirteen U.S. service members have been killed in the fighting so far.
Gen. Dan Kaine, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, has previously said that most injuries to U.S. military personnel are caused by Iranian drone strikes. The number of injuries typically fluctuates or increases over time, as service members may not seek immediate medical attention depending on the severity of their injuries.
