Olmert: Continuing the war in Gaza is a crime, not defending Israel’s security

PNN – The long-time prime minister of the Israeli regime Ehud Olmert criticized Netanyahu’s cabinet and called for the Israeli prime minister to be put on trial.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who has strongly criticized Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet in recent months, told the German newspaper Der Spiegel, criticizing the continued military attacks on the Gaza Strip that Israel’s military goals were achieved long ago and that continuing the war is no longer justified.

Referring to the assassination of martyr Yahya al-Sinwar, the commander of the Hamas Islamic Resistance Movement in the Gaza Strip and the leader of the group, he stated that this operation could have been an end to the war, but Netanyahu has fueled the continuation of the conflicts in order to protect his personal and political interests.

In this regard, Olmert demanded that Netanyahu be prosecuted not in the Hague court, but within Israel, on charges of committing crimes against Palestinians and even Israelis.

The former Israeli Prime Minister also considered the regime’s military aggression against Gaza to be an illegal act and full of incidents that could be considered examples of war crimes.

He acknowledged that the regime’s security forces participate in and support settlers’ attacks on Palestinian areas in the West Bank.

This former Zionist official criticized the behavior of Israeli authorities after Operation Storm Al-Aqsa, emphasizing that the regime has distanced itself from logic and restraint, and if it continues on this path, it will face the risk of international sanctions and global isolation.

Olmert’s frank statements come at a time when field defeats in Gaza, increasing diplomatic isolation, and a domestic economic crisis have deepened the divide among Israeli political currents and further weakened the position of Netanyahu’s cabinet.
