Orban: It is not logical to say that Russia can swallow the West.

According to Tass, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban pointed out that the war in Ukraine, which is now in its third year, has shown the limits of Russia’s capabilities, and the possibility that “Russia will swallow the whole West” is unlikely.

Despite being a member of NATO and the European Union, since the beginning of the Ukrainian war in February 2022, Hungary has always refused to provide weapons and military aid to Ukraine. Budapest is also seeking to withdraw from NATO’s long-term aid program for Ukraine, which Hungary’s foreign minister has called a “crazy mission”.

Orban, who has been in power since 2010, has based his campaign agenda for next month’s European Parliament elections on avoiding a wider and deeper intervention in the Ukraine war, and has said that the vote will determine the course of war and peace in Europe.

He said: The Russian army is engaged in a serious and difficult war with the Ukrainians. If Russia was strong enough to land Ukraine in the blink of an eye, it would have done so by now.

The Prime Minister of Hungary added: NATO’s military capability is far greater than Ukraine’s, and as a result, an attack by Russia or any other country on NATO is unlikely. I believe that Russia, which is not able to defeat Ukraine, would come at once and swallow the whole Western world, it is illogical. The probability of this happening is very, very small.

According to Orban, the West’s claim about the threat from Russia is a prelude to more Western involvement in the Ukraine war.

He added: “Hungary has no plans to participate in NATO’s actions, which can open the feet of the members of this alliance to the war in Ukraine and lead to a direct confrontation with Russia.” Brussels is working on military planning with task forces to explore ways of NATO’s participation in this war. Hungary is against this plan.
