Pakistan Army: Our support for Iran was in accordance with international law’

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that Pakistan is fully confident in its defense capabilities and the regional balance of power, and that no one dares to target our nuclear assets.

He emphasized: Pakistan’s nuclear programs are fully protected and no party, including Israel, can target them without facing a decisive deterrent from us.

Regarding the regional developments resulting from the Israeli regime’s aggression against Iran, the Pakistani army spokesman also said: The Islamic Republic of Iran is our friend, brother, and Muslim neighbor with whom we share cultural and religious affinities.

He emphasized: Pakistan’s support for Iran during the 12-day war was based on principled positions and in accordance with the UN Charter, international laws, including the laws of war.

Referring to his country’s recent conflict with India, this senior Pakistani military official said that Pakistan’s nuclear programs are fully protected and no party, including Israel, can target them without facing a decisive deterrent.

General Ahmed Sharif expressed confidence that Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities are impenetrable and that all possible scenarios are considered within the framework of comprehensive military and intelligence deterrence.

Al Jazeera wrote in its report: Amid escalating regional tensions and growing signs of foreign interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs, the country’s military establishment has taken a clear stance on what it calls “a systematic Indian conspiracy” to destabilize the country by supporting separatist movements and carrying out attacks on Pakistani armed forces and targets.

The report said: The current statements of the Pakistani military spokesman come after the July 27 bombing in North Waziristan, carried out by the terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which killed 16 soldiers and injured more than 20 people, including civilians.

Islamabad subsequently accused India of involvement in the attack and of supporting and financing bombings and sabotage operations in Pakistan. At the same time, New Delhi denied the accusations of its western neighbor.

According to the leadership of the Pakistani army, the incident has refocused attention on the tension between the two nuclear-armed countries and New Delhi’s role in fueling militant operations inside Pakistan.

According to IRNA, as tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi escalated after a shooting incident in India’s Pahalgam region on May 20 this year, military clashes broke out between the two South Asian neighbors, and after several days of reciprocal attacks, the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan announced on May 10 that they had reached an understanding for the immediate implementation of a “complete ceasefire and cessation of military action.”

Pakistan claims that in its counter-attack against the Indian attack on the morning of Wednesday, May 7, it was able to shoot down 6 Indian fighter jets, including 3 French Rafale jets, and in its military operation in response to the Indian attack, it destroyed 2 S-400 defense systems, and in all these stages, it used its indigenous fighter jets called “JF-17” and the Chinese fighter jet JF-10C.
