Pakistan briefs on the closed-door security meeting.

The Public Relations Office of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan announced in a statement the objectives and issues raised by the Permanent Mission of Pakistan as a non-permanent member of the Security Council in a closed session today.

The statement said: The United Nations Security Council today held closed consultations under the agenda of the meeting “India-Pakistan issue”. The meeting was held to discuss the deteriorating regional security situation, the escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was convened at the request of Pakistan and given India’s recent unilateral actions and provocative statements that have significantly increased the risk of military confrontation and threatened regional and international peace and security.

During the meeting, the members of the Council expressed their deep concern at the growing risk of escalation of tensions in South Asia and stressed the urgent need for restraint and de-escalation.

They called for dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions, prevent military confrontation and conflict, and resolve issues peacefully.

According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, several members of the Security Council stressed that the long-standing dispute over Jammu and Kashmir is the root of regional instability and must be resolved by relevant Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Many members of the Council, noting India’s suspension of the Joint Water Treaty, stressed respect for international law and obligations.

In his briefing to the Security Council members, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, highlighted India’s provocative actions, including the unilateral measures announced on April 23 and its aggressive military posture, and warned that these actions were unjustifiable and dangerous and could lead to catastrophic consequences.
