Pakistan: Countries should fulfill their international obligations towards Palestine.

From the Public Relations Office of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the country, participated in the Conference on the Two-State Solution to recognize the independent state of Palestine on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He welcomed the recognition of Palestine by the governments of France, Britain, Australia, Canada and Portugal and called on all countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to take similar steps in line with their commitment to international law.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan announced that the country actively participated in the Conference on the Two-State Solution and also endorsed the outcome document – the New York Declaration – without compromising its long-standing and principled positions on the Palestinian issue.

The statement said: Pakistan’s renewed resolve reflects our continued commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace. Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize Palestine in 1988 and has consistently demanded the admission of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

Pakistan strongly condemns the continued aggression against Gaza and calls for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire across Gaza and all occupied Palestinian territories and full and unhindered humanitarian access to the besieged and starving Palestinian population.

The Foreign Office of Pakistan reiterated its support for the establishment of an independent, viable and contiguous state of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital in accordance with relevant UN and OIC resolutions and international legitimacy.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Office of Pakistan announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had arrived in New York hours earlier and was scheduled to address the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on Friday.

Shehbaz Sharif will also attend a joint meeting of the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Turkey, Jordan and Egypt with US President Donald Trump.
