Pakistan: Retaliation attacks on India were based on the principle of deterrence

PNN – In a statement on the ceasefire agreement with India, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that the country’s recent attacks were carried out in a limited and proportionate manner in response to India’s military actions and in compliance with the principle of deterrence.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the ceasefire agreement with India, explaining the details of recent events and announcing that Pakistan’s military strikes were a response to what it called “unprovoked and illegal Indian aggression.”

This statement states: After India launched Brahmos missiles and drones entered Pakistani airspace, we launched Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos. This action was taken within the framework of the right to self-defense and based on Article 51 of the UN Charter, with the aim of protecting civilians.

The Pakistani government statement said: India carried out several airstrikes during the nights of May 7-10, killing and injuring dozens of civilians, including women and children, and destroying infrastructure and religious sites. In response, Pakistan targeted military centers and facilities that were involved in planning and executing the attacks.

Islamabad has emphasized that in this response, attacks on civilian targets were avoided and the measures taken were precise and limited.

In another part of the statement, referring to the tensions between the two nuclear-armed countries, the international community was called upon to take action to prevent the escalation of the crisis. Islamabad also stressed the need to examine the main areas of tension, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and called for a peaceful resolution of differences through dialogue.

The Pakistani government, while referring to its fight against terrorism, has also called on the international community to avoid “false narratives” about Pakistan’s role in regional insecurity and instead support the country’s efforts to maintain stability.

The statement, emphasizing Pakistan’s readiness to defend its territorial integrity, stressed the importance of avoiding any action that would lead to an escalation of instability in the region.

While the Indian army announced in a statement that “New Delhi has struck a precise blow to terrorist bases,” Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif emphasized that “New Delhi’s claim of targeting terrorist bases is baseless and is intended to divert world opinion.”

The Pakistani official confirmed that the country’s fighter jets and, at the same time, its air defense forces succeeded in shooting down five Indian fighter jets after the Indian missile attack.

On the other hand, while the two sides have so far launched missile and drone attacks on each other’s positions, leaving dozens dead and injured, Pakistan’s attacks on areas in Indian Territory have led to the closure of all Indian airports throughout the north of the country.

Pakistan’s missile operation, dubbed “Bunyan Marsus” (Iron Wall), began hours after India launched new missile attacks on some Pakistani air bases, and Islamabad claimed to have destroyed several key bases inside India and launched a cyber-attack on the country’s national power grid.

It is worth noting that India also announced last night that Pakistan had carried out several missile and drone attacks on some parts of the country. However, the Pakistani army rejected these Indian positions and said that the Indian media and officials had resorted to fake news.

India and Pakistan have announced an agreement to immediately implement a “complete ceasefire and cessation of hostilities” between the two countries, following days of heavy exchanges of fire in border areas and heightened concerns about a possible nuclear conflict.
