From the World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Denominations, Maulvi Azmi Abdul Hamid, in a meeting with Hojjatoleslam Hamid Shahriari, the Secretary General of the Forum, said: The issue of Palestine can be an important connecting point for entering into discussions of unity and proximity in this region.

He added: In addition to the issue of Palestine, the problems of Muslims in Myanmar, Thailand, and the Philippines can also be linked to unity discussions, because Muslims in these countries are facing serious challenges in the field of Muslim rights, and the plan of unity and proximity within this framework will be more welcomed in these societies.

The head of the Islamic Organization of the Malaysian Consultative Council added: Malaysia will assume the presidency of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) in the next three weeks, which is a very important and influential region in the economic, cultural and political fields; a region that has a population of more than 650 million people, 47% of which are Muslims.

Azmi Abdul Hamid, stating that the regional conference on Islamic unity will be held in Malaysia, continued: Therefore, addressing the issue of unity in this region is of dual importance. In this regard, and to further enrich the goals of approximation, efforts will be made to bring together prominent scholars from Malaysia and thinkers from Southeast Asian countries and Iran in this conference, and once again discuss unity and approximation in religious thoughts.

In this meeting, Hojjatoleslam Shahriari thanked Dr. Azmi Abdul Hamid for his presence in Iran and also for his valuable speech at the conference on “The Concept of Freedom from the Perspective of the Supreme Leader” and said: The World Forum for the Proximity of Islamic Denominations is interested in holding an international conference focusing on one of the approximate issues, especially the issue of Palestine and its role in strengthening Muslim unity in Malaysia, and in this regard, it is fully prepared to cooperate with the Council of Islamic Non-Governmental Organizations of Malaysia.
