Palestinian analyst urges protection for Hebron’s Ibrahimi Mosque.
Farhan Alqam addressed the expansionist actions of the Zionist regime regarding the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, located in the West Bank. He stated that the occupiers’ decision to control the inner courtyard of the mosque aligns with their broader strategy of exerting pressure on the Palestinians. He noted that due to the international community’s inaction in response to these aggressive actions, the enemy continues its assaults and attempts at expansion.
Alqam emphasized that the actions taken against Islamic holy sites aim to eliminate Palestinian existence, particularly in relation to the Ibrahimi Mosque, which has become a priority for these aggressions. The ultimate goal is the complete domination and Judaization of this sacred site.
He further explained that Israel’s attempts to seize the inner courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque represent a strategy to end Palestinian presence at this location and sever any connection between Muslims and the mosque.
Alqam stressed the need for a significant Palestinian presence at the Ibrahimi Mosque and the necessity of strong actions across all fields. He urged that this issue be raised on the international stage, calling for a united Arab, Islamic, and global response.
He pointed out the importance of media coverage for this issue, especially given the current global readiness to hear and positively engage with the Palestinian narrative.
Previously, political analyst Suleiman Besharat described the Israeli army’s recent decision to seize the inner courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque as the culmination of a settlement project and part of a systematic policy aimed at achieving complete control over this holy site.
Besharat warned that the expansion of these measures could lead to the total seizure of the Ibrahimi Mosque area, which would violate the principles of temporal and spatial division. He noted that these decisions coincided with actions granting Israel control over numerous historical, heritage, and religious sites in the West Bank, transferring them to the Israel Antiquities Authority. This plan appears aimed at “redesigning the Palestinian Islamic identity” and attempting to transform it into a Jewish identity.
