Palestinian Authority: Israel must be pressured to send shelters and tents to Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority Presidency called for the lifting of restrictions and obstacles imposed by the Israeli regime on the entry of shelters, tents and emergency shelter equipment by the organization into the Gaza Strip.
This request was made to deal with the harsh weather conditions that have put the lives of citizens, especially children, women and the elderly, at risk, because the remaining tents in Gaza are worn out and torn and do not prevent the penetration of rain.
Estimates by the Government Information Center in the Gaza Strip show that about 93% of the tents are no longer habitable; so that out of a total of 135,000 tents, 125,000 have been damaged, and currently, the Gaza Strip needs about 250,000 tents and 100,000 shelters or prefabricated houses to provide temporary shelter until reconstruction.
Heavy rains hit the Gaza Strip on Friday, flooding the tents of the displaced, exacerbating the suffering and misery of the people of Gaza for more than two years.
Despite the ceasefire agreement being signed more than a month ago and warnings that the coming winter could worsen the suffering of the displaced, the humanitarian crisis in the area continues.
At the same time, strong winds accompanying the recent rain system have destroyed and torn many tents, especially in open, unprotected areas near the Gaza coast, including the Mawasi area of Khan Yunis in the south of the strip.
On the other hand, Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense, warned on Friday in an interview with the Palestinian news agency Safa that the lives of residents in Gaza are at risk every second due to dilapidated and collapsing houses. He called on the residents of the area, especially the displaced, to secure their tents, build sand barriers around them, and take the necessary preventive measures to reduce the damage caused by the rain system.
