Politico: German election results mean increased potential Berlin-Washington confrontation

PNN – In an analysis, the Politico website predicted that the relations of the future German government with Donald Trump will face serious challenges, referring to the stubborn support of “Friedrich Mertes”, the winner of the German elections and possible chancellor of this country, from Europe and NATO.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this American media wrote: The possible future chancellor of Germany may face political problems sooner than he imagined.

Politico considered the placement of the extremist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in second place in the country’s election results as the most important internal problem of Friedrich Mertes, the 69-year-old leader of the center-right Christian Democratic Union of Germany and wrote: The party is a far-right group with anti-immigration and pro-Russian views that has managed to do well despite growing concerns among German voters about immigration and the economy.

This analysis added: However, other leading parties have refused to engage politically with the extremist party, meaning that Mertes may in the future be forced to form a potentially fragile governing coalition with the current ruling centre-left Social Democrats, who came third in the election.

Politico considered the foreign problem of the future German government to be the unpopularity of Mertes among important political figures in the United States and wrote: For example, Elon Musk, one of the closest advisors to Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has always been a staunch supporter of Mertes’ rival party, the Alternative for Germany (AfD), and JD Vance, Trump’s vice president, recently met with the leader of this party. On the other hand, considering that Mertes is a staunch supporter of Europe and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), it can be said that there is a possibility of conflict between these two countries in the future.

At the end of this article, he wrote: Friedrich Mertes, the German elections took place today and he will probably be the next chancellor of this country, but the situation did not go as he wished. Mertes will probably have to form a coalition with the Social Democrats along with the Green Party. That means he’ll have to form a coalition government with one or two more left-leaning parties, making his proposed immigration and economic reforms more difficult than he thought.
