PNN – Politico quoted a senior American official as saying that despite approving the sending of more weapons to Ukraine, the country’s president still believes that Moscow has the upper hand.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing TASS, Politico wrote in a report quoting a senior White House official that although US President Donald Trump agreed yesterday to send defensive and offensive weapons to Ukraine, he still believes that Russia has the upper hand in the war.

The US official told Politico: The president’s view is that Russia will win; it’s just a matter of how long it takes.

He added pointing out that Russia has more economic, military, and human resources than Ukraine: And although they (Russian forces) are making slow progress, they are making progress. The President (Trump) simply wants the killing to stop.

Other Trump administration officials have said his shift in policy on Ukraine is simply a response to a “personal frustration” with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s indifference to his efforts to broker a peace deal. The president is also “not happy” with Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine.

Trump announced yesterday that Washington will continue to send weapons and military equipment to Ukraine as long as Europe pays for it. According to him, NATO will coordinate the work, and if Russia does not reach a peace agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, the United States will impose 100% tariffs on Moscow and its trading partners.
