Poll Results: Half of Europeans Consider Trump an Enemy.

The Guardian newspaper, citing the results of the survey, wrote: A higher proportion of Europeans see the risk of war with Russia as high, and more than two-thirds believe that their country would not be able to defend itself if such a war broke out.

The survey of nine European countries commissioned by the Paris-based European affairs platform Grand Continent also found that three-quarters of respondents favored their country remaining in the EU, with many saying that leaving the bloc would have hurt Britain.

Jean-Yves Dormagen, a professor of political science and founder of the Cluster17 polling agency, said: “Europe is not only facing increasing risks, but is also undergoing a transformation in its political, historical, and geopolitical environment.

Overall, the survey suggests that Europe is concerned and deeply aware of its vulnerability and is trying to present a positive image of itself in the future.

The poll found that across nine European countries, an average of 48 percent of people see Trump as their “direct enemy.” Belgium (62 percent), France (57 percent), Croatia (37 percent), and Poland (19 percent) agree.

Europeans, however, see their relationship with the United States as strategically important, the Guardian reported. When asked what position the EU could take with the US administration, 48 percent chose a conciliatory approach.

The recent poll, which was conducted in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Croatia, Belgium, and the Netherlands, also found that a majority (51 percent) felt the risk of open war with Russia in the coming years was high, with 18 percent saying it was very high.
