Pope calls humanitarian situation for Palestinians shameful.
Pope Francis on Thursday intensified his recent criticism of Israel’s aggression in Gaza, calling the humanitarian situation in Palestine “very serious and shameful.”
In an annual address to diplomats delivered by his aide, Francis referred to the deaths caused by the winter cold in Gaza, where there is almost no electricity.
The text reads: “We cannot accept the bombing of civilians. We cannot accept that children are freezing while hospitals are destroyed and the energy grid is damaged.”
The 88-year-old pontiff, who was present for the speech but asked one of his aides to read it, called for an end to the war in Ukraine and other conflicts around the world and expressed concern about climate change.
