Possibility of calling up 400,000 Israeli army reservists.
Al Jazeera reported, citing the Israeli Channel 12 television, that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet agreed to a plan this morning that would allow the call-up of 400,000 Israeli army reservists.
According to a statement released by Netanyahu’s office, his cabinet has agreed to the general framework proposed by US Representative Steve Whittaker for a temporary ceasefire during the month of Ramadan and Passover.
According to the plan, half of the Israeli prisoners, both alive and dead, will be released on the first day of the agreement. If an agreement is reached to establish a permanent ceasefire, the rest of the prisoners will also be released. This is while Hamas has announced its opposition to the plan, considering it a violation of the agreement proposed by the US and signed by the Zionists. Hamas has announced that the only way to continue the prisoner exchange process is to begin the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that Israel still reserves the right to return to war if it feels the negotiations are not going as it wants.
Hebrew-language media reported that Tel Aviv has effectively withdrawn from the second phase of the prisoner exchange agreement and has put the Witkoff proposal on the agenda. According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12, the proposal is actually an extension of the first phase of the agreement, not an entry into the second phase.
Currently, according to estimates by Israeli and American officials, 59 Israeli prisoners are still being held, of whom 22 are alive and 37 were killed.
