Possible Trump-Putin meeting: A new step towards ending the Ukraine war?
The White House announced on Tuesday morning that a face-to-face meeting between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin is being planned shortly. According to a Reuters report, the meeting could take place next week, and its main purpose is to explore ways to end the war in Ukraine.

According to a White House official, it was Putin who proposed the meeting. Trump responded to the proposal and expressed his willingness to hold the meeting. According to the official, if the talks with Putin are successful, Trump is ready to hold a three-way meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian officials during a trip to Moscow yesterday. Trump called the meeting “successful” on the social network Truth Social. According to Trump, the results of these talks have drawn a “clear path to a final agreement.”
Trump told reporters at the White House: “We had a good conversation with Putin.” He also announced a meeting with Putin shortly, but said that no date had been set for the meeting with Putin.
Trump claimed that “there is a very good chance that we have reached the end of the road on the Ukraine war.” He then emphasized: “I would not call what we have achieved with President Putin ‘progress.'”
