The 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum will be held until the 19th of this month, and this Russian city will host various officials and experts from different countries.

On the sidelines of this summit, an exhibition of industrial achievements, agriculture, transportation, banking and insurance, medical innovations and knowledge-based products has been set up.

The plan to create the BRICS group was formed with the rapprochement of the four emerging economic powers of the world, including Brazil, Russia, China, and India, during the height of American unilateralism in the mid-1990s. “BRIC Group” was officially established on June 16, 2009, and with the addition of South Africa on September 21, 2010, its name was changed from “BRIC” to “BRICS” after this country joined. From the beginning of 2024, five new members, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, officially joined this group.

Russia will hold the rotating presidency of BRICS in 2024.

According to the announcement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, about 30 countries are looking to join or establish a cooperation mechanism with the BRICS group. In the meantime, Turkey and Thailand have recently spoken about their request to join this group.
