Following the Israeli army’s attack on Palestinians who were waiting to receive humanitarian aid in Gaza’s Al-Rashid Street, the United Nations Security Council held a meeting behind closed doors.
This confidential meeting was held at the request of Algeria to review the recent developments in the Gaza Strip following the massacre and crime on Al-Rashid Street.
In this meeting, Algeria presented a draft statement to the temporary chairman of the Security Council, during which 15 members of this council expressed their deep concern about this crime and blamed it on the soldiers of the Zionist regime’s army, which directed thousands of Palestinian civilians waiting to receive humanitarian aid. They had opened fire.
The text of this statement was approved by 14 members of the Security Council, but the United States opposed the issuance of this statement, and as a result, this statement was not issued by the head of the Security Council. Because the statements of the head of the Security Council are issued only with the consent of all members.
On the other hand, Riyad Mansour, the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations, demanded the issuance of a resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Nicolas de Riviere, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, also asked the Security Council to fulfill all its responsibilities. He also called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza for humanitarian reasons.
