The President of Russia added: The efforts of some countries to maintain their influence by any possible means have aggravated the situation in Ukraine and in the Middle East (West Asia). A well-known group of countries, accustomed to dominating the rest of the world, will do nothing to maintain their waning influence by employing blatant blackmail, coercive pressure, and replacing the international legal system with some kind of “order based on their own rules.” They will not sink.
Earlier, Putin said that sustainable world peace will be established only when all countries feel safe and know that their opinions are respected. According to him, if a country aims to dominate others and arbitrariness prevails in the world system, any country may be attacked.

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the “Primakov Study” international forum, Yury Ushakov, adviser to the Russian president on political issues, pointed out that the current situation in Ukraine was the result of ignoring Russia’s security interests and the stubbornness of the North Atlantic Treaty, which proposed the creation of a common security system. Ushakov recalled that Yevgeny Primakov, at the very beginning of his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was seriously concerned about the rapid expansion of NATO towards Russia’s borders at that time. At the time, Moscow officials discussed a proposal to create a new European security system in which NATO, along with other organizations, would be “under the common umbrella” of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
However, the United States and other NATO members did not accept the proposed security system in Europe, according to Putin’s advisor. “That’s how we got to where we are now,” Ushakov said.
