Putin to India: US-India trade strained.
TASS news agency added that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in New Delhi, ready to meet Putin, who is returning to India for a two-day visit after four years. The visit comes in light of US opposition and pressure on New Delhi to distance itself from Moscow.
Putin is expected to sign ten documents and more than 15 agreements and memorandums of understanding between commercial and non-commercial institutions of the two countries during the visit.
The report added that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will receive Putin in an “informal” meeting upon his arrival at his residence. The next day (Friday, December 14, 2021), an official welcoming ceremony will be held at the Presidential Palace with Modi and Indian President Droupadi Murmu in attendance.
After that, Russia and India will begin negotiations, and during this meeting, ten intergovernmental documents and more than 15 agreements and memorandums of understanding between commercial and non-commercial institutions of the two countries are expected to be signed.
Meanwhile, the website of the Hindu newspaper wrote about this: The Russian President is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Modi today, Thursday.
The Indian newspaper continued by writing: Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in New Delhi at around 4:30 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025 (local time, equivalent to 13 Azar 1404) on his first visit to India in the past 4 years.
According to IRNA, the 23rd summit of the Russian and Indian leaders will be held in New Delhi on Thursday and Friday.
Putin’s visit to India comes amid US pressure on Delhi to reduce trade with Russia.
The Kremlin spokesman had previously said that the visit is of particular importance, as it provides an opportunity for a comprehensive dialogue to expand the special strategic relations between Russia and India in the political, trade and economic, scientific and technological, cultural, as well as to discuss important international and regional issues.
Dmitry Peskov added: “Vladimir Putin” will visit India with profitable proposals, and the two countries will consider creating mechanisms for payments outside the scope of discretion and applying pressure on the West.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg News reported on November 10 about the visit: Russia and India have a special and privileged strategic partnership agreement, and it is expected that they will hold talks on the Sukhoi-57 and S-500 missile systems deal.
A possible agreement between Russia and India on this issue may complicate New Delhi’s trade agreement with the United States.
India has reduced its heavy dependence on Russian weapons and has switched to purchasing weapons from the United States and European countries. However, Russia remains the largest arms supplier to India.
