Recognition of the State of Palestine; 7,500 Arab and Jewish activists demand.
The action was announced in a statement by the non-governmental movement “Zazim” in the occupied territories, which is made up of Jewish and Arab activists.
The movement announced in a statement that the purpose of launching the latest petition is to deliver a “clear and united voice” to the international community ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York on September 22.
The movement also predicted that the number of signatories to the petition would exceed 10,000 before the General Assembly is scheduled to convene.
The text of the petition states: “Recognizing the state of Palestine is not a punishment for Israel, but a step towards a better future; a future based on mutual recognition and security for both peoples.”
The Israeli movement Zazim continued its statement by emphasizing: “The choice is clear: either recognizing the state of Palestine alongside Israel, or moving towards an extremist project similar to that pursued by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.”
The movement described Smotrich’s plan to annex parts of the West Bank to the occupied territories as “a form of apartheid” and “a continuation of the genocidal war.”
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, along with several ministers in Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, are advancing plans aimed at fully annexing the West Bank to the occupied territories.
