Reflecting the Iranian presidential election in foreign media

The Associated Press news agency covered the news of Iran’s 14th presidential election and reported that this voting is being held while widespread tensions have engulfed the Middle East over the war in the Gaza Strip.

This American news agency noted that more than 61 million Iranians over the age of 18 are eligible to vote, and about 18 million of them are between 18 and 30 years old. Iranian law requires that the winner of the election gets more than 50 percent of the total votes.

Turkey’s Anatolia news agency also announced the beginning of the voting process in Iran’s early presidential elections.

Referring to the presence of people at the voting booths in Tehran and other Iranian cities, this media reported that “Four candidates, including Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Saeed Jalili, Masoud Mezikian and Mostafa Pourmohammadi, are competing for the presidency after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter accident.”

The French news agency was one of the western media that wrote in a report about the start of voting for the 14th presidential election in Iran: Polling stations have opened in Iran for the presidential election.

Referring to the candidates of this election period, this media noted that Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi and Alireza Zakani withdrew from the 14th presidential election.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of Iran, cast his ballot shortly after the start of voting and asked the people of Iran to vote.

The website of the American “CNBC” network, reflecting the news of holding the presidential elections in Iran and introducing the candidates of this period of the elections, reported that “the result of Iran’s early elections after the unexpected death of former president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash can have consequences beyond the country’s borders.”

The Guardian newspaper, for its part, covered the news of the 14th round of Iran’s presidential elections and wrote: More than 61 million Iranians over the age of 18 have the opportunity to vote for the new president. While introducing the candidate of this Iranian election, this British newspaper mentioned the “high regional tensions” following the Zionist regime’s war in Gaza.

“Euronews” website, in a report stating that “Iranians have started voting to replace the president who died in the helicopter crash”, pointed to the words of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and his advice to the Iranian nation to participate in the elections and announced that Ayatollah Khamenei cast one of the first votes in the election.

“France 24” website, in a detailed report, narrated the process of holding presidential elections in Iran and the attendance of people at the polls. This French news channel referred to the Supreme Leader of the Revolution’s words: Election day is a day of joy and happiness for us Iranians.
