Representative of Palestine in the United Nations: The American draft resolution was one-sided

PNN – The ambassador and permanent representative of the Palestinian Authority in the United Nations announced that the American draft resolution was rejected for clear reasons, and that was the “one-sidedness” of this draft.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Riyad Mansour, the ambassador and permanent representative of the Palestinian Authority in the United Nations, said at the meeting of the Security Council to review the resolution proposed by the United States that Israel was mentioned only once in this resolution.

He said: “We reject the current events as a matter of terrorism. This is a genocide against the entire Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.”

The representative of Palestine, supporting another resolution that is going to be voted on, said: “The essence of this resolution is a call for an immediate ceasefire during the month of Ramadan, which we support because we want to save the lives of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and we want to have extensive humanitarian aid at the level of the country’s needs.”

He emphasized: “We are against the forced transfer into and out of Gaza, and we completely reject any attempt to invade and attack the Rafah region, including the city of Rafah.”

But Gilad Erdan, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, criticized the failure of the Security Council to approve the resolution proposed by the United States regarding the ceasefire related to the release of hostages in Gaza.

The Israeli ambassador said: “If the American resolution was approved, it would be a moral decision for the United Nations. For purely political reasons, this resolution was not approved, and terrorists can use this council to whitewash their crimes.”

Burrell: The situation in Gaza is a symbol of the failure of humanity

The resolution proposed by the United States on Gaza was presented at the United Nations Security Council meeting on Friday, and the countries of Russia, China and Algeria voted against it. Since a resolution needs 9 out of 15 votes of the members of the Security Council without the veto of the permanent members, the American resolution could not be approved and it was vetoed by the negative votes of China and Russia, the permanent members of the Security Council.

11 countries out of 15 member countries of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution proposed by the United States, three countries voted against and one country abstained.

The three countries that voted against included two permanent members of the Security Council, Russia and China, and one non-permanent member of the Security Council, Algeria, which voted against it. The country of Guyana also abstained from voting on this resolution from the non-permanent members of the Security Council.

Russia and China believe that the US resolution did not clearly call for a ceasefire and stop Israel’s aggression in Gaza. In this resolution, America had announced the “necessity of an immediate ceasefire”, but it did not specifically and explicitly demand a ceasefire, but most members of the Security Council want such a ceasefire.

This is the second time that Russia and China have used their veto rights since October 7, 2023. The two countries first vetoed a resolution calling for a “humanitarian pause” on October 25.

China and Russia say calling for an immediate ceasefire is the only moral solution to end the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

Diplomatic sources announced that following the veto of the US resolution in the UN Security Council, this council will vote on another resolution regarding the ceasefire in Gaza.

The new proposed resolution was presented by the non-permanent members of the Security Council to establish an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
