Representative of the Zionist regime in the United Nations: The ceasefire route in Gaza passes through Rafah

PNN – Gilad Erdan, the representative of the Zionist regime in the United Nations, announced to the Security Council that the ceasefire route in Gaza passes through Rafah.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from “Al Jazeera English”, the representative of the Zionist regime claimed that “no one wants to avoid operations in Rafah more than Israel” but “the path to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza passes through Rafah”.

A day after the US resolution was rejected by Russia, China and Algeria because of the green light to attack Rafah, Israel’s ambassador said the only way to achieve a permanent ceasefire is to “completely end Hamas’s capabilities”.

He claimed: This ceasefire will not be achieved unless all Hamas battalions are destroyed. You cannot put out most of the fire and leave the rest, the fire will grow again and spread, without the operation in Rafah, Hamas will not be destroyed.

A UN Security Council vote on a new Gaza ceasefire resolution has been postponed until Monday after a separate US draft was vetoed, diplomatic sources said on Saturday.

The extraordinary meeting of the Security Council with the title “The situation of the Middle East and Palestine” is being held while the United Nations is closed on Saturdays and Sundays and does not hold meetings.

The resolution proposed by the United States on Gaza was presented at the UN Security Council meeting on Friday, March 22, 2024 local time, and the countries of Russia, China and Algeria voted against it.

Since each resolution needs 9 votes out of 15 votes of the members of the Security Council without the veto of the permanent members, the American resolution could not be approved and it was vetoed by the negative votes of China and Russia, the permanent members of the Security Council.

11 countries out of 15 member countries of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution proposed by the United States, three countries voted against and one country abstained.

The three countries that voted against included two permanent members of the Security Council, Russia and China, and a non-permanent member of the Security Council, Algeria. The country of Guyana also abstained from voting on this resolution from the non-permanent members of the Security Council.

Russia and China believe that the US resolution did not clearly call for a ceasefire and stop Israel’s aggression in Gaza. In this resolution, the United States had announced the “necessity of an immediate ceasefire”, but it did not specifically and explicitly demand a ceasefire, but most members of the Security Council want such a ceasefire.

This is the second time that Russia and China have used their veto rights since October 7, 2023. For the first time, two countries vetoed a resolution on Gaza on October 25.

China and Russia say calling for an immediate ceasefire is the only moral solution to end the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza.

On October 7, 2023, the Palestinian resistance groups launched the “Al-Aqsa Storm” operation from Gaza against the positions of the Israeli regime, and finally, on November 24, 2023, a four-day temporary ceasefire was established between Israel and Hamas, or the pause for the exchange of prisoners between Hamas and Israel.

This pause in the war continued for 7 days, and finally on the morning of Friday, December 1, 2023, the temporary ceasefire ended and the Israeli regime resumed attacks against Gaza.

In order to retaliate for the surprise attacks of the “Al-Aqsa storm” and to compensate for its failure and stop the resistance operations, this regime has closed all the crossings of the Gaza Strip and is bombarding this area. Negotiations to re-establish a ceasefire in Gaza and release the prisoners with the mediation of Qatar and Egypt and the participation of the United States have not yet reached a conclusion. US President Joe Biden predicted that before the holy month of Ramadan, Hamas and Israel would reach an agreement for a new round of ceasefire, but this prediction did not come true.
