The mentioned countries emphasized that goals such as peace, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and respect for international law, including humanitarian law, are common values of these countries, adding: We call on all parties to refrain from any illegal or violent actions against the convoy and to adhere to international law.
In their statement, the 16 countries warned that any violation of international law, including attacks on ships in international waters or their illegal seizure, as well as violations of the human rights of participants in the convoy, will have legal consequences.
At the end of last August, a convoy of ships carrying humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, with the aim of breaking the blockade of the strip, departed from the Spanish port of Barcelona, followed by another convoy at dawn on September 1 from the Italian port of Genoa.
As of Sunday evening, 16 ships have departed from the ports of Qammar, Bizerte, and Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia for Gaza, and are scheduled to join each other in the Mediterranean waters and head for the Gaza Strip.
The Gaza Strip has been under a complete siege by the Zionist occupation regime for 18 years, and approximately 1.5 million Palestinians out of the Gaza Strip’s population of approximately 2.4 million have been displaced following Israel’s devastating war against the strip.
Since October 7, 2023, as a result of the devastating war of the Zionist regime against the Gaza Strip, 64,964 Palestinians have been martyred and 165,312 have been injured, most of whom are children and women.
