Reuters: EU to suspend some sanctions on Syria.
According to Al Arabiya News Agency, according to a draft statement seen by Reuters, the European Union is set to suspend sanctions on Syria in the areas of energy, transport, and reconstruction.
EU foreign ministers are set to discuss the issue at a meeting in Brussels on February 24.
The draft statement states that the Council of the European Union has decided to suspend several restrictive measures on Syria “in the areas of energy, transport, and reconstruction, as well as to facilitate related financial and banking transactions.”
The statement added: “As part of a gradual approach and in a next step, the European Council will assess whether further restrictive measures can be suspended. The European Council will continue to review the appropriateness of the suspensions based on close monitoring of the situation in the country.”
This comes as the EU’s moves have been publicized after terrorists took power in Syria.
