Reuters: “Musk” and the “X” network are the focus of false information about the US election

PNN – In an interview with Reuters, election experts considered the X social network owned by American billionaire Elon Musk and a supporter of Donald Trump to be the main center for disseminating false information about the US presidential election.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Reuters news agency, according to a report published by the non-governmental group “Center for Countering Digital Hate”, the false and misleading claims of Musk, the owner of the automobile group “Tesla” about the 2024 elections of the United States on the X social network, have so far received 2 billion views.

Election experts stated that this platform plays a central role in spreading false information, especially about the battleground states; States that play a decisive role in the final result of the US presidential election.

Since taking over Twitter, which was later renamed X, Musk has reportedly tightened content moderation and fired thousands of employees. He has also expressed his support for the former US president.

Kathleen Carley, a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and an expert on the spread of false information on social platforms, told Reuters: Musk’s wide reach with nearly 203 million followers helps to activate its “network effect” and this information is easily published in other social networks such as the Telegram messenger, thus increasing the number of visits.

This expert emphasized: X is currently a conduit for spreading false information from one network to another.

According to the Center for Countering Digital Hate, at least 87 Facebook posts this year have published claims about the US election that fact-checkers have deemed false or misleading. It is said that this misinformation has had two billion visitors.

Philip Hensley-Robin, a member of the center, pointed to Pennsylvania as one of seven key swing states and said: For example, information about voter registration fraud published by X is an example of such misleading information.

He added: Some accounts on X believe that fraud took place in Pennsylvania, while we clearly know that election officials and state managers in all cities are only registering eligible voters as required by law.

Previously, the “Vox” news site reported that Musk, as one of Trump’s billionaire supporters, has launched a platform on X social media for users to share possible voting fraud or irregularities they see in the 2024 election.

According to this American news-analytical site, although Musk’s action is considered a good way to deal with electoral fraud, at the same time, it has increased speculations about fueling people’s distrust of elections and questioning its credibility.

The 2024 US presidential election has started today, November 5, in some regions of the US. The results of the polls indicate a tight competition between Donald Trump, the candidate of the Republican Party, and Kamala Harris, the Democratic rival, especially in the battleground and key states.
