Riyadh is worried about its weakening position in the region.
According to Yemen News, at the same time as the calls for the formation of new regional alliances that may isolate Riyadh following its efforts to normalize relations with the Zionist regime, the Riyadh authorities intend to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation with the presence of Arab and Islamic countries. are
In a statement, Saudi Arabia announced that this meeting, which will be held this month, will be an exceptional meeting that will be dedicated to “examining the situation in Palestine, stopping the war in Gaza, and solidarity with Egypt’s position, emphasizing the two-state solution.”
This is the second such summit that Saudi Arabia has held since the start of the war in Gaza.
The timing of Saudi Arabia’s invitation shows Riyadh’s concern about losing its position in the Arab world, especially since this invitation coincides with new calls such as the recent invitation by the Turkish president to form an Islamic coalition with the presence of countries bordering Palestine, after the visit of the Egyptian president to Ankara, there have been moves that may increase the isolation of Saudi Arabia.
While Riyadh is trying to remain at the top of the Arab and Islamic scene, it is simultaneously trying to use this position as leverage in negotiations to normalize relations with the Zionist regime.
After the disagreements that overshadowed the previous summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the rejection of proposals related to “preventing the use of regional airports to supply weapons to the Zionist regime and cutting off diplomatic relations” by Saudi Arabia, experts do not expect that this new summit will offer more effective options. However, this summit will bring Saudi Arabia, which has contradictory positions on regional developments, back to the scene.
