Rubio: No further action against Venezuela after Maduro’s arrest.
According to Anadolu Agency, US Senator Mike Lee announced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed him that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has been arrested and will be tried on criminal charges.
Lee said that he spoke directly with Rubio after last night’s field action.
Senator Lee wrote on the social network X that Rubio informed me that Maduro was being held by US forces to face criminal charges in this country and that the field action that we witnessed last night was taken to protect and defend those who were being held.
The senator added that this action “likely” falls within the scope of US President Donald Trump’s inherent authority under the Second Amendment to protect US forces from actual or imminent attack.
Lee quoted Rubio as saying that now that Maduro is in US custody, no further action is expected in Venezuela.
The comments came after Trump announced that the United States had successfully carried out a massive attack on Venezuela and claimed that Maduro and his wife had been captured and transferred from the country.
Venezuelan officials have confirmed that they do not have access to the country’s president and have asked the United States to provide evidence that Maduro is alive.
Caracas has said that Washington’s actions are aimed at creating a puppet government and controlling Venezuela’s oil resources.
