PNN – The Russian Armed Forces announced that the Ukrainian army lost more than 520,000 military personnel in the war in 2025.
According to TASS, Sergei Rudskoy, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and Head of the Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Army, said: In 2025, Ukraine lost about 6,700 tanks and armored combat vehicles, more than 12,000 weapons and mortars, and more than 520,000 military personnel.
He added: The Ukrainian army has lost a total of more than one and a half million military personnel since the beginning of the special military operation.
But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on February 5: The official number of soldiers – both cadre and active duty – who have been killed on the battlefield is 55,000.
He added that in addition to these figures, “a large number of people” have also been officially declared missing.
This comes while the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) think tank in Washington announced in a report that Russia has lost nearly 325,000 soldiers since the start of its invasion of Ukraine.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies report states that Ukraine has also lost between 100,000 and 140,000 troops since the start of the war in February 2022, which is a relatively high number of casualties given the country’s smaller army.
