PNN – The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the U.S. resolution on Gaza contradicts international decisions regarding the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing TASS, the ministry said that the U.S.-backed resolution on the Gaza Strip, which was recently adopted by the UN Security Council, runs counter to internationally approved decisions on creating a Palestinian state.

The ministry stated that Resolution 2803 not only lacks the authority required of the Security Council to maintain peace and security, but also contradicts genuine principles of peacemaking and legal international decisions on forming an independent and unified Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

The ministry also criticized the United States for pressuring the Council to pass the resolution without considering essential amendments proposed by other countries. It added that even releasing Russia’s own draft, aimed at resolving disagreements within the Council, failed to improve the situation.

The U.S. resolution calls for the creation of a “peace mission” to administer Gaza under the leadership of the U.S. president. According to the plan, international forces would be deployed to disarm Palestinian resistance groups in the area. The resolution strips the Palestinian people of their right to govern their own state and does not require Tel Aviv to refrain from annexing Palestinian territories.

Russia and China abstained from voting on the U.S. resolution, saying it does not pave the way for peace in the region.
