PNN – The representative of Russia in the UN Security Council asked his colleagues not to support the resolution proposed by the US on Gaza, which without asking for a ceasefire, is another license for the Israeli army to continue killing the defenseless Palestinian people.
According to the report of the International group of Pakistan News Network, quoting from “Tas” news agency, Vasily Nebenzia, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, announced last night at the Security Council meeting that the country wants not to support the draft Middle East resolution proposed by the United States on the situation in the Gaza Strip, because this document is another license to continue killing.
Nebenzia said that the draft “alternative” Security Council resolution proposed by the United States on the situation in the Gaza Strip does not include a call for a ceasefire and aims to expand the UN “umbrella” for Israeli military operations in the region. This is not an alternative plan, but another license to kill Palestinian civilians that the United States intends to give the Israeli authorities, this time with the signature of the UN Security Council.
According to this Russian diplomat, the United Nations should also consider imposing sanctions against those who prevent the provision of humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip. In his speech, Nebenzia referred to the 2018 memorandum in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2417, which condemned the use of starvation against civilians as a method of war.

The representative of Russia also held the United States directly responsible for the sacrifice of a large number of innocent people in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Nebenzia added: By obstructing international efforts to end the violence in Gaza, Washington bears full responsibility for the unprecedented number of civilian deaths in the region during the escalation of the conflict, which has so far reached more than 30,000, and this is the price of the US veto.
In addition, according to him, Russia expects the UN Security Council to meet in the coming days to discuss the situation related to the financing of the International Relief and Works Agency in the Middle East for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).
Last week, the United States once again vetoed Algeria’s proposed UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. This draft was supported by 13 members of the Security Council, and only the United States and its ally, the United Kingdom, refused to vote for it.
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, emphasized that this decision of the Washington authorities shows their attitude towards the people in the dire situation of the region.
