Russia’s support for Pakistan’s membership in BRICS and the signing of economic cooperation documents

PNN – During the official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia to Pakistan, commercial and economic cooperation documents were signed between the two countries, and Islamabad appreciated Moscow’s support for its request to join the BRICS organization.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Alexey Orchuk arrived in Islamabad today for a 2-day official visit and met with Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, as well as General Syed Asim Muneer, the commander of the country’s army.

The joint press conference of the Deputy Prime Ministers of Pakistan and Russia was also held after the discussions of the delegations of the two countries, and the Pakistani side appreciated the support of the Russian Federation for Islamabad’s request to join BRICS.

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia announced that the country is ready for a strong partnership with Pakistan to exploit the North-South Corridor. The parties also signed several cooperation documents in the commercial and economic fields.

He added that close interactions between Moscow and Islamabad should be expanded through multilateral organizations, especially the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Russian Prime Minister will travel to Pakistan next month to participate in the meeting of the heads of state of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

Pakistan also announced its accession to the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment and development of the Belarus-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan international transport corridor. The document of accession was signed by the Deputy Minister of Roads and Communications of Pakistan and his Russian counterpart.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Orchuk also met Pakistan Army Commander General Syed Asim Muneer at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The parties discussed issues of mutual interest, developments in regional security and bilateral cooperation in various sectors and expressed their mutual commitment to expand security and defense cooperation.

Pakistan’s army chief said that the country will continue to strengthen traditional relations with the Russian Federation in the field of defense.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia is going to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan tomorrow.
