Salameh Marouf: There is no mechanism to reopen roads and streets in northern Gaza.

Salama Marouf, head of the Palestinian government information office in Gaza, said in an interview with Al-Arabi: The return of refugees to northern Gaza continues despite difficult conditions. The refugees travel more than 8 kilometers on roads that have been destroyed by the occupation’s military machinery.

He added: Northern Gaza lacks the necessary facilities to welcome the refugees. There is no fuel and public transportation in northern Gaza to facilitate the movement of the refugees. 90 percent of those returning to northern Gaza do not have a home to live in.

The head of the Palestinian government information office in Gaza stated: We have sent urgent requests to provide tents to accommodate people returning to northern Gaza. Not even a liter of fuel, gas, or ready-made houses for the refugees has been received. We have only received 800 tents under the pretext of transportation procedures to Gaza.

He added: A comprehensive and rapid response must be given to the humanitarian needs for the resettlement of the refugees. There is no mechanism to reopen roads and streets in northern Gaza. We expect the movement of displaced people northward to be smoother than on the first day. More than 70 children have gone missing on the way back north.
