PNN – Yemen’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Parliament strongly condemned the UN Security Council’s decision to extend sanctions against the country, stating that the council, which displays double standards and ignores Israeli crimes, has become a submissive tool in the hands of the United States and Israel.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, in response to the Security Council’s extension of sanctions, Yemen’s Foreign Ministry said that Resolution 2801 was issued based on claims from parties that have attacked Yemen, amid the continuous absence of Yemeni voices at the United Nations.

The Ministry emphasized that Security Council resolutions will not change Yemen’s stance in support of Palestine.

Abdulwahid Aburas, Yemen’s Deputy Foreign Minister, stated that the United States and the United Kingdom are using this resolution to legitimize the militarization of the Red Sea and to threaten navigation in the Arabian and Red Seas.

He added that Yemen does not recognize the Security Council experts’ latest report, calling it full of misleading and false information, and that Yemen does not engage with the expert panel due to its political nature and false reports.

Aburas also praised countries that abstained from voting on the resolution and expressed hope that their positions will be stronger in the future. He warned all international and regional parties not to use this resolution as a pretext to harm Yemen’s interests and urged them to learn from past experiences.

Yemen’s Parliament also condemned the UN Security Council’s resolution and its double standards, emphasizing that the council has become a submissive tool in the hands of Israel, the United States, and their regional allies.

The statement said that the Security Council’s policies and double standards regarding Yemen and other issues in the Islamic world contradict the will of free nations that reject injustice and Zionist-Western domination.

The Parliament noted that for more than two years, the Security Council has remained silent and inactive regarding war crimes committed against the Palestinian people using prohibited American weapons and bombs, while Israeli aggression and intimidation continue in the region.

The statement added that the Security Council has also maintained a shameful silence regarding crimes committed by the US-UK-Saudi-UAE coalition and the decade-long oppressive blockade imposed on the Yemeni people. This council continues to favor the Zionist lobby and represents the worst example of double standards.

Yemen’s Parliament stressed that the Security Council, which has so far ignored genocidal crimes in Gaza and the surrounding region, has become a key and active partner in supporting the Israeli occupation and justifying its crimes against the people of Yemen and Palestine. It continues to act as a tool for covering up ongoing aggression and blockade against Yemen, in clear violation of international and humanitarian norms, laws, and principles.

The Parliament warned that the Security Council has become a submissive tool in the hands of Israel, the United States, and their regional representatives, and cautioned it about the consequences of persisting in double standards regarding the issues and grievances of Arab and Islamic nations, particularly the suffering of the Yemeni and Palestinian people.

The statement emphasized that the Security Council should hold Israeli war criminals accountable for the crimes they have committed in Yemen, Palestine, and several other countries in the region and implement international law.

Yemen reaffirmed its steadfast position in supporting the issues of the Islamic world and confronting all foreign conspiracies and plans targeting its homeland, unity, security, sovereignty, and stability.

On Friday, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution extending financial sanctions and travel bans against Yemen for another year, until November 14, 2026, and also extended the mandate of the Panel of Experts supporting the Sanctions Committee until December 15, 2026.

The resolution, approved with 13 votes in favor and abstentions from Russia and China, extends the international sanctions on Yemen under Resolution 2140 for another year. These sanctions include continued asset freezes and travel bans on listed individuals and entities, as well as the extension of the Panel of Experts’ mandate until December 15, 2026.

It is noteworthy that, at the insistence of the United States, the Security Council has imposed sanctions on Yemen under Chapter VII of the UN Charter in Resolutions 2140 (2014) and 2216 (2015).
