Sanders, who have always been an advocate for freedom of speech and social justice, strongly criticized the arrest and imprisonment of Rumisa Ozturk, a Turkish-American student who was arrested for writing an article critical of Israel.
Emphasizing the principles of the US Constitution, especially the First Amendment, which protects freedom of speech, he has considered this arrest a clear violation of civil rights and has called for his immediate release.
He also warned Republican politicians, especially Trump, that they should familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Constitution and respect the basic rights of citizens.
Recently, Columbia University officials suspended 65 pro-Palestinian students who had protested in the university’s library two days ago.
A major campaign to suppress criticism of Israel has now taken shape in the American academic community, punishing professors and students for supporting Palestine.
