Saudi Arabia condemned the US veto against the Gaza ceasefire resolution.
According to al-Mayadeen, in response to the veto of Algeria’s request for a ceasefire in Gaza, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia condemned this veto.
Saudi Arabia announced in a statement: We regret the veto of Algeria’s draft resolution in the Security Council, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry has condemned some members of the Security Council for preventing the approval of the ceasefire resolution in the Gaza war.
Yesterday, the United States once again vetoed Algeria’s draft resolution in the UN Security Council, which called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Thirteen members of the United Nations Security Council voted in favor of this resolution, the United States opposed it, and only the United Kingdom abstained.
The draft resolution called for an “immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds to be respected by all parties.” The resolution also committed the parties to the immediate release of all prisoners without any preconditions. This resolution also implemented the full implementation of resolutions 2712 and 2720 approved on October 7, 2023, regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Resolution 2712 of the Security Council focusing on the need to protect children in armed conflicts was approved on November 15, 2023, and Resolution 2720 with the stated goals of increasing and monitoring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip was approved on December 22.
Earlier, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said the United States would not support a vote on Algeria’s proposal and promised that if the resolution was put to a vote, it would “not be accepted.”
According to him, the United States is trying to conclude an agreement between Israel and Hamas on the release of prisoners, which requires a cessation of fighting in Gaza for at least six weeks. The American side claims that the draft resolution presented by Algeria did not help to achieve these goals.
The United States has already vetoed resolutions in the UN Security Council calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza.
With this process, the Zionist regime’s brutality in Gaza will continue, even though the number of martyrs in Gaza is approaching 30,000 and the number of injured is close to 70,000.
