Sexual assault on immigrants at the border between Mexico and the United States

Pak Sahafat – The Mexican government revealed that immigrants who are waiting to enter the United States are sexually assaulted in the border towns of Mexico.

According to the report of Pak Sahafat International News Agency, the Mexican government and human rights groups revealed that immigrants who are waiting to enter the United States in the border cities of Reynosa and Matamoros, Mexico, are sexually assaulted.

According to this report, the government and human rights groups, after conducting numerous interviews with people who have been sexually assaulted and dozens of local aid workers, found that many women who are waiting to enter the United States through these two cities have been assaulted. These two cities are the two main routes for immigrants to enter America through Mexico.

Luis Miranda, the spokesperson of the US Department of Homeland Security, said in this regard: The inhumane method of human traffickers in raping or taking immigrants hostage for personal gain is a criminal and morally shameful act.

In addition, based on the statistics published between 2014 and 2023, criminal investigations on rape and assault against foreigners, including Americans, in these two cities have reached the highest record this year.

Many experts, including lawyers and aid workers, told Reuters that this new system had unintended and serious consequences for the two cities, including an increase in violence.

According to this report, the risk of kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault in Reynosa and Matamoros, Mexico, is one of the factors that encourage immigrants to cross the border illegally.

But Biden administration officials believe the new system is more humane because it makes immigrants pay less money to smugglers and criminal gangs to get them across the border.

Meanwhile, according to a draft memo from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which was provided to Reuters three days ago, Joe Biden ordered the closure and downsizing of some immigration detention centers due to their high costs.

According to this draft, Biden has ordered the closure and downsizing of 9 immigrant detention centers due to the high costs of these centers and the lack of staff, thus saving 235 million dollars in the budget.

Meanwhile, during the 2020 presidential campaign, Joe Biden promised to reform and review the process of keeping immigrants, but with the significant increase in immigration to the United States and the attempt to illegally cross the American border with Mexico, this promise has not been fulfilled. The failure of the Biden administration to reform these centers represents the challenge Biden faces for his 2024 campaign.

In addition, about 6 months ago, at least 2 immigrants were suffocated and 15 others were taken to the hospital due to a crowding of illegal immigrants in a freight train in Texas, USA.

Donald Trump has announced that if he is re-elected president, he will revoke the automatic citizenship of children of illegal immigrants born in the United States.

In the 2016 election campaigns, he also had strict policies towards immigrants and later implemented the project of building a wall across the border of Mexico with the United States as he had promised.

It should be noted that the issue of illegal immigrants in the United States and their attempts to enter the country through the Mexican border has become one of the most challenging and critical issues for the Joe Biden government.

Since Joe Biden took office in January 2021, the record of illegal immigration crossing the southern border of the United States has been broken twice in a row. According to US Customs and Border Protection statistics, more than 2,000,000 illegal crossings into the US will be recorded in 2022.
