South Korea’s coup: Evidence of a year-long plot to consolidate power.
The Korea Times website in Seoul reported: Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok announced the final results of the investigation into the martial law case of December 3, 2025, at a press conference at the Seoul Supreme Prosecutors’ Office on Monday.
The special prosecutor announced at the press conference that former President Yoon Seok-yeol had begun preparing for martial law in early October 2023, a year before it was implemented.
He added: According to the findings, preparations intensified in late 2023 with changes in the country’s military structure; they included personnel appointments, operational planning, and frequent contacts with senior military commanders.
Cho also said that these conclusions were based on notes and recordings, as well as testimonies from people involved in the case.
The special prosecutor stated that the purpose of these actions was to neutralize opposition forces and consolidate power through the imposition of martial law.
According to South Korean media reports, Yoon Seok-yeol faces life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted of the failed martial law in December 2024.
