Spokesperson of the US State Department: We do not want to witness a wider regional war

PNN – The spokesperson of the US State Department once again reiterated Washington’s support for the Israeli regime while emphasizing that we do not want to see an escalation of the conflict between Tehran and Tel Aviv: We do not want to see a wider regional war.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, in response to a question about the US warning to Israel about retaliating against Iran’s response to Tel Aviv’s attack on Tehran’s consulate in Damascus, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that he would not discuss private diplomatic talks between the US and Israel.

At the same time, Miller said: As we showed in the attack on Saturday night, we clearly stated that we are committed to the defense of Israel. Of course, we have made it clear to everyone that we want to see a reduction in tension, we do not want to see a further escalation of the conflict. We don’t want to see a wider regional war.

At the same time, the spokesperson of the US Foreign Ministry claimed: The goal of this government (Biden) has been to reduce tension since October 7, 2023, and we have worked hard to achieve it. But beyond that, I don’t want to get into private diplomatic conversations.

Miller also said: We did not have initial information about Iran’s response, and our estimates were based on information and not communication with Iran. We informed all regional parties that we do not want a full-scale war.

The spokesperson of the US State Department called the operation to defend Israel against the attack of the Islamic Republic “effective” and said: This attack could have caused many casualties.

In response to the question that today there are criticisms that the UN missile sanctions against Iran, which expired in October last year, somehow made this attack possible, this official of the US State Department answered: This is not true.

At the same time, Miller claimed: Although Iran’s missile sanctions have been lifted by the United Nations, Tehran continues to destabilize the region with its ballistic missile and drone program.

He claimed: We will continue to hold Iran accountable for these actions. Other sanctions against Iran’s missile program continue. We are looking to extend the continuation of the implementation and if necessary to increase these sanctions and in total we have imposed more than 500 sanctions related to Iran in this government and we are still looking for their answers.

On April 13, 2024, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched the operation “Wada Sadiq” and fired dozens of drones and missiles towards the occupied territories and the positions of the Israeli regime in retaliation for Tel Aviv’s missile attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria and the martyrdom of 7 people and military officers in Damascus.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced: In response to the numerous crimes committed by the Zionist regime, including the attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus and the martyrdom of a group of our country’s military commanders and advisors in Syria, the IRGC Air Force hit certain targets inside the occupied territories by firing dozens of missiles and drones.

The representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United Nations also announced: Iran’s military action was based on Article 51 of the United Nations Charter regarding legitimate defense in response to the aggression of the Zionist regime on the diplomatic places of our country in Damascus.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran emphasized: If necessary, the Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to take more defensive measures to protect its legitimate interests against any aggressive military actions and illegal use of force.

Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, in a message on the occasion of the martyrdom of Mohammad Reza Zahedi and a group of his comrades at the hands of the usurping and hateful Zionist regime, emphasized: We will make them regret this crime and similar ones, by God’s will.
