Stanford University lays off hundreds of employees.
Stanford University announced it was laying off more than 360 employees in line with budget constraints related to federal funding policy.
According to the report, the Trump administration has threatened to cut federal funding to universities over pro-Palestinian protests against Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip, climate initiatives, transgender policies, and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
Meanwhile, a Stanford University spokesperson said in an email in response to media reports about its staff layoffs that Stanford is implementing a budget reduction policy. Last week, many colleges and departments implemented staff reductions, with a total of 363 people laid off.
Meanwhile, Columbia University announced in June that it was cutting $140 million from its general budget for next year due to a challenging fiscal environment, largely due to changes in federal policies affecting higher education.
