Strike by more than 50,000 workers in Los Angeles paralyzes public services.
According to Russia Today, more than 50,000 workers in Los Angeles, USA, have been their strike since Monday afternoon.
According to this report, officials of the Public Sector Workers Union announced that the strike is being held in response to the failure of negotiations with contractors to conclude a new labor contract after the previous contract expired last March.
More than 55,000 workers are members of the union, working in various fields, including public health, park workers, and cleaning services. The union announced that this is the first time that all members of the union have gone on strike.
One of the union officials emphasized that these workers have managed successive crises in Los Angeles, from massive fires to health and social crises.
The strike is said to end on Wednesday evening, and during this time, administrative offices, some health centers, and services will be closed.
According to this report, officials of the Public Sector Workers Union announced that the strike is being held in response to the failure of negotiations with contractors to conclude a new labor contract after the previous contract expired last March.
The union represents employees including public health professionals, social workers, parks and recreation staff, custodians, clerical workers and others serving a county of 10 million residents. It will be the first time all of its about 55,000 members go on strike, the union said.
“This is the workforce that got LA county through emergency after emergency: the January wildfires, public health emergencies, mental health emergencies, social service emergencies and more,” the union leader, David Green, said in a statement. “That’s why we have had it with the labor law violations and demand respect for our workers.”
