Sweden does not want permanent NATO bases.

According to Sputnik, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström announced on Tuesday that NATO-related associations will operate in Sweden; But we do not want to establish permanent NATO bases in our country.

Yesterday, Monday, the Swedish flag was raised at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. Sweden’s flag was raised outside NATO headquarters in Brussels on Monday as the country officially became the 32nd member of NATO.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced in a press conference in Brussels after the approval of Sweden’s membership that this day is a historic day.

After 200 years of non-commitment, Sweden now enjoys the protection granted under NATO Article 5, guaranteeing the freedom and security of Allies, the NATO Secretary General said.

Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Kristerson announced in this press conference that Sweden has returned home.

The Swedish Prime Minister added that Sweden is now part of NATO – a proud member and ally, along with its closest friends and partners.

After the start of the war in Ukraine, Finland, and Sweden submitted requests to join NATO in May 2022 for security reasons. Finland became the 31st member of NATO on April 4, 2023. As for Sweden’s request, Hungary has just agreed to this request.
