Switzerland hosts Palestinian civilian conference

Switzerland hosts Palestinian civilian conference.

According to Al Jazeera, Switzerland has invited the 196 states parties to the Geneva Conventions to participate in a conference to be held next week on the situation of civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Following the invitation of the UN General Assembly, I confirm that the Conference of States Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention will be held in Geneva on March 7,” said Nicolas Bideau, a spokesman for the Swiss Foreign Ministry.

The Fourth Geneva Convention, adopted after World War II in 1949, contains international rules for the protection of civilians in areas of armed conflict and occupation.

The UN General Assembly had asked Switzerland to organize the meeting, a request that was made in September last year during the Gaza war.

Similar conferences have been held previously on Palestinian civilians in 1999, 2001 and 2014.

The Israeli regime is now directly facing charges of genocide over the Gaza war. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, the Israeli Minister of War, are now under international prosecution for this charge.
