Syrian Foreign Minister: Like others, I was surprised by Assad’s departure

PNN – The Syrian Foreign Minister said in a statement that I, like all Syrians, was surprised by the departure of Bashar al-Assad and the withdrawal of the army.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Bassam Sabbagh added in an interview with Al-Arabiya channel: The calls to prevent the fall of Assad failed and the army retreated from its positions.

He added: I have not attended Bashar Assad’s meetings with Iranian and Russian officials.

Sabbagh said: I suggested to Bashar al-Assad to start political talks, but he did not respond and the calls failed to prevent the fall of the regime.

He added: In the UN Security Council, we emphasize the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.

The Syrian Foreign Minister said: We have not received any request or proposal for Assad to step down from power.
