Syrian judge issues arrest warrant in absentia for Bashar al-Assad.

According to the Syrian state news agency (SANA), Syrian judge Tawfiq al-Ali has issued an arrest warrant for Bashar al-Assad on charges of “premeditated murder, torture resulting in death, and deprivation of liberty.”

The judge added that the issuance of this judicial ruling paves the way for an arrest warrant to be issued through Interpol and international follow-up to the case.

Al-Ali said: This action was taken based on a complaint by the families of the victims of the November 21, 2011, events in Daraa province in southern Syria.

Armed opposition groups in Syria began their operations in the northwest, west, and southwest of Aleppo on the morning of November 27, 2024, intending to remove Bashar al-Assad from power. Finally, after eleven days, on Sunday, December 18, 2024, they announced their control over the city of Damascus and Assad’s departure from the country.
