Tahrir al-Sham on the path to normalization; Jolani: We and Israel have common enemies.
According to Russia Today, Jonathan Bass, a prominent businessman and close friend of Trump, published in the Jewish Journal excerpts from his conversation with Mohammed al-Julani, the leader of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the current self-proclaimed ruler of Syria.
Bass says that al-Julani told me, “We are not starting from scratch, we are starting from the depths. We have inherited nothing more than rubble.”
The author quotes al-Julani as saying: “If I am the only one speaking, then Syria has learned nothing. We invite all segments to the table: secular, religious, tribal, academic, rural and urban. The government must now listen more than dictate.”
Asked about the Syrian people’s lack of trust in the process, he said: “I am not asking for trust. I am asking for patience. Hold me and this process accountable. Trust is gained from this path.”
In response to the question of what Syrian citizens have now? Without referring to the worsening economic conditions of the country or the occupation of part of Syria by the Zionist regime, Golani claimed: “‘Dignity through work. Peace through purpose.’”
Future relations between Syria and the Zionist regime
In one of the most sensitive parts of the conversation, Golani addressed the future relationship between Syria and the Zionist regime.
Golani said in this regard: “I want to be clear. The era of endless mutual bombing must end. No country progresses when fear reigns. The truth is that we have common enemies and can play a key role in regional security.”
According to the article, in this meeting, Golani stated: “The Druze of Syria are not hostages. They are citizens with deep roots, historically loyal and deserving of any protection under the law. Their security is non-negotiable.”
While refraining from proposing an immediate normalization of relations with the Zionist regime, Golani announced his readiness for future negotiations based on international law and sovereignty, adding: “Peace must be achieved through mutual respect, not fear. We will work wherever there is honesty and a clear path to coexistence.”
In the context of his conversation with the American businessman, Golani stated: “No matter what image the media paints of Trump, he is seen as a man of peace. Trump understands influence, power and results very well. Syria needs an honest mediator who can restart the dialogue. If there is a possibility of consensus that will help achieve stability in the region and security for the United States and its allies, I am ready to hold this dialogue. He is the only man who can reform this region and bring us together!”
Without referring to the Israeli occupation of southern Syria after he came to power in Syria, Golani told the businessman, “I did not seek a position to rule the country. I accepted it because Syria must turn the page! I prefer to participate in writing this history with others rather than to see it torn apart again. We have no choice but to succeed. We must make Syria great again.”
Likened by experts to a pawn of foreign countries, he claimed: “We will not be a pawn. We will be a government that rules with legitimacy. We want America to be our partner in governance, fighting corruption, and building institutions based on honesty and integrity.”
Abu Muhammad Golani’s statements about the US president’s peace-loving role in the region come at a time when Trump is considered one of the biggest supporters of the Zionist warmongering, especially in Syria and Gaza. Political observers believe that the widespread bombing of Syria, and even the targeting of areas close to the country’s presidential palace, was carried out with the direct green light of the United States. However, the statements of Golani, as the leader of the terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, regarding Trump’s role in the region, are considered far from reality.
On the other hand, Golani’s inaction in the face of the widespread attacks by the Zionist regime on strategic and civilian areas in Syria has surprised public opinion. Instead of taking any practical action to stop these attacks, Golani practically only asks for an end to the attacks in a begging manner. Earlier, reports were published that the current Syrian government was imminently joining the Abraham Accords with the Zionist regime.
