Taliban: Our diplomacy has entered a new stage after Russia’s official recognition.
In response to Russia’s official decision to recognize the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan,” Zakir Jalali, the advisor to the Foreign Minister of the Taliban government, described this development as the beginning of a new stage in Afghanistan’s foreign policy.
He stated: “With the recognition of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan by the Russian Federation, our diplomacy is practically entering a new stage.”
Referring to the Taliban’s diplomatic efforts after returning to power in 2021, Jalali added that since the “conquest of Kabul,” the current government’s foreign policy apparatus has worked to build trust with various countries and has put diplomats on the agenda to send diplomats to regional capitals.
According to this Taliban government diplomat, the level of relations with some regional countries has improved to the point that it is possible to send ambassadors.
The advisor to the Foreign Minister of the Taliban government also emphasized that, as expected, the recognition process is proceeding more through bilateral relations than through multilateral institutions.
Jalali also referred to Russia’s global status and stated: “In addition to being one of our important regional countries, Russia is also a permanent member of the UN Security Council and an active player in multilateral diplomacy at the global level.”
He concluded by emphasizing that the doors to interaction with Western countries remain open, provided that this interaction is without interference in internal affairs and biased judgment.
