PNN – The current and three former presidents of Israel’s Supreme Court have issued serious and explicit warnings about an unprecedented democratic collapse in Israel.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Russia Today and the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Isaac Amit, the current president of Israel’s Supreme Court, along with three former court presidents, warned that Israel is rapidly moving toward an authoritarian regime centered on individual rule.

In his speech at the Public Law Association conference, Amit described the current situation in Israel as a “democratic deterioration” and cautioned against “organized and planned attempts to boycott court sessions and disrupt its work.”

Aharon Barak, a former Supreme Court president, described the situation as “worse than it appears,” noting that the separation of powers has effectively vanished, with the Prime Minister controlling both the cabinet and the Knesset, turning governance into a de facto personal rule. He warned that democracy does not turn into dictatorship overnight but gradually collapses.

Esther Hayut, the first woman to preside over Israel’s Supreme Court, also warned about the dangerous regression in democratic norms.

Uzi Fogelman, another former president of the court, emphasized that recent legal reforms aim to reduce the powers of the Attorney General and transform the judiciary into a tool under executive control.

These warnings come amid escalating political and legal crises in Israel.

Previously, Dan Halutz, former Chief of Staff of the Israeli army, repeatedly warned that Israel is on a dangerous path toward the collapse of democracy. Tamir Pardo, former head of Mossad, also cautioned that the current cabinet’s actions are weakening the foundations of the democratic system. Ehud Olmert, former Prime Minister of Israel, described Netanyahu’s cabinet as “the most dangerous in Israel’s history,” stating that current developments reflect an intentional erosion of democracy and a move to consolidate power.
